How to find the headers of an email in Outlook and Gmail
Headers can include delivery details, reported checks and reply addresses. These details can be incomplete or forged.
Gmail in a computer browser
Open the email, choose the three dots next to Reply, then Show original. Choose Copy to clipboard. The original message text can include the email body, so paste the headers only and remove the rest.
Outlook on the web
Open the email, choose the three dots, then View, then View message details. Copy the headers only.
New Outlook for Windows
Open the email, choose More actions, then View, then View message details. Copy the headers only.
Classic Outlook for Windows
Open the email in its own window, choose File, then Properties. Copy the text in the Internet headers box.
Paste the headers into the free Email Header Checker. It runs in your browser. A reported pass does not prove an email is safe.
